Music by J.S.Bach, Purcell, Handel, Thomas Tomkins, Michelangelo Rossi & Alessandro Scarlatti
These artists need no introduction to Finchcocks audiences. This enjoyable programme was first performed last year in Oxborough, Norfolk, where Martyn and Phyllis Clarke have established their own important collection of period keybaord instruments.
A collection of personal favourites, ranging from Schumann's great song cycle Liederkreis Opus 39 (with Graf Viennese fortepiano similar to one owned by Schumann) to Noel Coward and Flanders and Swann, through Ravel, Poulenc, Quilter, Grainger and Vaughan Williams. Also piano solos by Schumann etc.
This distinguished baritone's international career includes many opera performances; he has a special affinity with the song repertoire and has made about 150 recordings, covering four centuries of music. Christina is a rising star as a pianist; she was first heard at Finchcocks a few years ago in a programme about Fanny Mendelssohn.
A recital blending classical and modern music for the clavichord, revealing that the instrument is not only suited for music of the past. Compsers include J.S. and C.P.E. Bach, Bartok, Satie and pieces written for Marcia Hadjimarkos. American born, Marcia is based in Cluny in France, and has established a formidable international reputation as an interpreter of early keybaord instruments.
'Catherine' written, but never finished, when Jane Austen was 16, displays the wit and acute observation of the later novels. Music is drawn from the period, some from Jane Austen's own collection and includes Pleyel, Mozart, Handel, Dussek, Arne and Haydn.
